There are so many different ways to make a digital scrapbook, that the possibilities are endless. However, these are a few tips I’ve learned throughout the years that make it easier.
How to Make a Scrapbook Tip #1 – Choosing the number of themes Decide how many themes you want in your digital scrapbook. For example; do you want the entire book to have a common theme, or do you want each event to have its own theme. I prefer the entire book having a common theme, but that is mainly due to time issues. I would love someday to create digital scrapbooks where each event had its own theme. I’ve seen some amazing scrapbooks done that way. So, as you decide how many themes your book will have, also consider how much time you have available to work on your scrapbook. How to Make a Scrapbook Tip #2 – Choosing the theme(s) of your digital scrapbook Once you decide how many themes you want your scrapbook to have, you’ll need to decide what you want the theme(s) to be. Some example themes could be; Christmas, School Days, Girl/Boy or Summer Time. How to Make a Scrapbook Tip #3 – Choosing your color scheme Once you’ve decided on your theme(s), you should try to pick 3 main colors to work with in each theme. Usually this will mean picking 2 main colors, and 1 accent color. (I rarely include white when I’m picking my 3 colors, because almost every scrapbook page will have white in it.) Choosing to limit your colors creates unity in your pages, and makes them feel less cluttered. This also helps the pictures become the main focus of the pages, and not be overtaken by all the colors going on in the backgrounds and embellishments. How to Make a Scrapbook Tip #4 – Creating your scrapbook page templates Decided how the page templates will be arranged. One of the best tips I ever received was to have the pages that lay next to each other be organized as 1 template. Here is an example: ![]() How to Make a Scrapbook Tip #5 – Decide how many templates you want When I create a digital scrapbook, I like to create about 5 different templates (10 pages). This way I’ll have one template with a lot of pictures. I might use yearbook layout design ideas for that one. Then I’ll create a template with just 2 to 3 pictures. This template is for those pictures that I just love! Another template might be dedicated to having a large area for journaling. And the rest will be mixtures of the previous templates. Then as you’re creating your scrapbook, you just pick the scrapbook layout that best suits the pictures you’re working with at the time. How to Make a Scrapbook Tip #6 – Have fun! Now that all the technical stuff is out of the way, it’s time to have fun and add your pictures! It may seem like a lot of preparatory work, but you’ll be surprised how much faster & easier your digital scrapbooks will come together when you have a plan laid out.
